Update from the Barnards

James and Sarah, our missionaries in Constanta, Romania, and their team are starting a new and exciting ministry! They have had the opportunity to rent the building next to their base in hopes of creating a community center to be used to build relationships with their community. However the building is in need of much renovation. Here are the ways for Waters Edge families to get involved:

  1. Pray: Pray for these new ministries and for the renovations

  2. One Time Gift: Give a one time gift to help with the renovations

  3. Monthly Supporter of Community Center: Commit to monthly support for the Community Center that will be in this new space (they are looking to raise $1000 a month)

  4. Mission Trip: Join a trip this fall to help complete the renovations! They are looking for people with renovation skills to come and help finish the projects. If you interested in this opportunity and want more information please contact Lisa Schaefer.

James and Sarah Barnard, Romania

James, Sarah and Emma Barnard serving with Youth With a Mission (YWAM) in Central Europe and are based in Constanta, Romania.

Youth With A Mission is a global movement of Christians from many cultures, age groups, and Christian traditions, dedicated to serving Jesus throughout the world.

Our day to day work that we are involved is:

  • Mission Innovation, a ministry that aims to see growth in YWAM in Central Europe through networking, empowering and supporting new and existing YWAM ministries.

  • Ministering into a low income housing development called Henri Coanda through house visits, Bible studies, and children's clubs.

  • Helping to run the Discipleship Training School (DTS) a 6-month, full-time course. It consists of two parts: lecture phase and outreach phase. During the lecture phase the students focus on knowing God, His Word and His world. The outreach phase allows the students to put into practice what they have learned and to grow in sharing the Gospel.

  • We are also part of the organizational leadership (Staff care, administration, accounts, etc.)

Due to Covid and the war in Ukraine, prices have risen substantially. (For example fuel was 5 lei a litre and now is 7 lei a litre or $6.35 per gallon). Our expenses are going up around $1500 a month. If you feel you would like to become a monthly supporter or give a one time gift, go through the link below and choose the Sarah Barnard tab under missionaries.

YWAM Constanta Ukrainian Relief Fund This is a fund our base uses for expenses we will have as we provide housing, meals, transport to and from the border and help them with their next steps. (Any finances that are given to this fund that end up not being used for our expenses in this situation, will be sent to other YWAM locations in Ukraine or Romania who are working with the refugee crisis)

Water Wells and Seminary in Uganda

Alimagonza

The people of Alimagonza are refugees from seven different tribes who have been displaced by the LRA (Lord’s Resistance Army) terrorist organization in northern Uganda. This was the only water available to them. Women and children had to walk miles to get this water for their families. They risked attacks from wild animals and rape and abuse every time they made this trip to get water. We now have put this well in the middle of the village and the people have clean water and are healthy for the first time in their lives. Pastor Raymond Kaija travels here each week to teach the people about Jesus and now there is a thriving Christian community gathering there. We are very proud that they call their church Water’s Edge Alimagonza. Praise God that these people in Uganda now have clean drinking water as well as the life giving water of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Busia

Busia is the home of the first Lutheran church in Uganda. We are proud to have provided a well that provides clean water that this area has desperately needed.

Mbulamuti

We are partners with the village of Mbulamuti. We look forward to continuing a relationship with this village where we have helped provide water, schools and ongoing child sponsorship.
