Call to Worship

As you make the sign of the cross say:

We begin worship in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Then give each other a rock fist and say, “Jesus is the rock!”

Someone read Psalm 34:17–18:

When the righteous cry for help, the LORD hears
and delivers them out of all their troubles.
The LORD is near to the brokenhearted
and saves the crushed in spirit.

Join Pastor Anthony as he leads you in singing Psalm 121.

Discussion Question:

  • What do you think are the most powerful and harmful weapons in the world and why? (Missiles, guns, tanks, words, hatred, anger…)

Confess to one another what “weapons” or actions you used or things you did to hurt other people this week? Write them down if you are by yourself.

Prayer of Confession

Read out loud as a group or by yourself:

Heavenly Father, we confess that we did or said things that hurt others and you this week. Please forgive us and help us to be able to forgive the other people who hurt us. Thank you for always loving us and being our perfect and gracious Father. You are our God who sent his only son, Jesus, to die for us. We ask for your forgiveness for all of our sins in His perfect name. Amen.

Assurance of Forgiveness

Someone read the following:

Jeremiah 31:33-34 says,”This is the covenant I will make with the people of Israel after that time,” declares the Lord. “I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people. No longer will they teach their neighbor, or say to one another, ‘Know the Lord,’ because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest,” declares the Lord. “For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.”

Go around and tell each other:  God forgives you and remembers your sin no more. You are forgiven and loved by Jesus and by me.

If you are worshiping by yourself today write this good news on a sticky note and place it somewhere you will see it as a reminder to yourself this week.

The Lord’s Prayer

As God’s forgiven people recite the Lord’s Prayer together with thankful hearts knowing that Christians around the world are praying these words today.

Our Father in heaven, holy be your name. Your Kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For yours is the kingdom, the power and glory. Forever and ever. Amen.

God is so generous! God has given us everything that we have. Our health, our friends and family, our jobs and the resources to take care of those who are in need. Take a moment to thank God for all that you have (Ask each person to share one way God has provided for them this week).

God doesn’t want just 10% of what we have. He wants all of it! He says, “Watch me take care of you in amazing ways as you live lives of generosity!” As a group take a moment to pray for generosity and provision at Water’s Edge in this season.

If you have not already set up a recurring online offering, please take a moment to do so.

Teaching Time

This Week’s Text:

  • Ephesians 6:10-17

Discussion Questions:

  • How do you feel like the devil has been attacking you during this season?
  • How have you experienced the Lord fighting for you in that area of your life?
  • How can having a new vision of God’s armor positively affect your life this week?

After the teaching and discussion, conclude your time together in prayer. Take a moment to be still before God and listen to see if he puts anything on your heart. If he does, share it with your group. Then spend some time praying for the following:

  • For each person in your household to embrace God’s armor this week
  • For the doctors and scientists who are working for a vaccine for COVID-19
  • For the eradication of COVID-19 and healing for those who are sick
  • For the officials who are discerning the role out procedures for our country
  • For followers of Jesus to be a presence of peace and joy in our city
  • For financial provision for our church and community
  • For any needs in your household and community

When you are done praying say the following together:

May our worship continue as we live as witnesses of our risen Savior!
