For 2,000 years the Christian Church has been celebrating and remembering the first time Jesus instituted Holy Communion. In past years we have hosted a Christian Seder meal where we would go through a Jesus-centered adaptation of the Jewish Seder.
For the Jews the Seder is a time to remember how God worked in miraculous ways in the lives of their forefathers. As Christians we get to celebrate what God has done for us through Jesus. We also get to celebrate how God continues to move in our daily lives. We encourage you to go around the table and share what you are thankful for and how God is working in your lives.
Given the current circumstances of the pandemic we are unable to meet together in our church building to celebrate Maundy Thursday. So, we are continuing to creatively adapt to the situation as we follow Jesus in this ever-changing moment.
We are encouraging all of the households of Water’s Edge to have a family meal around the dinner table on Thursday, April 9th beginning at 6:00 PM. If you live by yourself, leverage technology like Facetime or Zoom to connect with another family from our church or virtually meet up with a friend to have a meal together.
Make it fun! Make your family’s favorite foods. Decorate the table like you would for a holiday meal! The heart behind this meal is to have a nice, long, uninterrupted meal where you can enjoy one another and the presence of God around your table.
We are encouraging everyone to do this around 6:00 PM, so that we can remember we are one family even though we are physically separated.
Again, have fun with this and enjoy the time together as a family or with friends over technology. If you need anything at all, please let Pastor Mark or Pastor Anthony know by sending them an email. May the peace of Christ dwell in your homes this Holy Week.
