Speaker Chad Bird

We are privileged to invite Chad Bird to this Gospel enriched weekend. Chad holds Master’s degrees from Concordia Theological Seminary and Hebrew Union College. He has served as an assistant professor of OT theology, contributed hymns to the Lutheran Service Book, and cohosts the podcast “Forty Minutes in the OT.” In addition to writing two books, Christ Alone and The Infant Priest, he has contributed articles to Modern Reformation, The Federalist, Concordia Pulpit Resources, and other publications. He is currently writing a book for Eerdmans Publishing about walking the crooked path of repentance. He is also a regular contributor to christholdfast.com and the 1517 Legacy Project.

God gives us His life in the blood

While Christians understand Jesus shed his blood on the cross as a sacrifice for our sin, few understand the biblical significance of the need for the shedding of blood from the beginning of scripture. Chad will uncover this deep meaningful narrative throughout the Old and New Testament.

Early in Genesis, God’s people are associated with blood; bloodlines, blood sacrifices, the blood of martyrs crying from the ground. The reason is quite simple: God put life in the blood. Life pulsed through Adam’s veins and spilled from Abel’s wounds. It painted the doors during the Passover and was poured on the altar during temple sacrifices. All this blood was leading to a fulfillment: Christ would assume our human bloodline, have his blood spilled on the cross, and say to us, “Take, drink, this is my blood of the new covenant.”

Over three sessions Chad will:

  • Trace this theme through the Scriptures from Genesis to Revelation.
  • Discover how OT worship enriches our NT worship.
  • Demonstrate the blood of Christ is our hope as men, husbands, fathers, and friends.
  • Reveal that the blood of Christ binds us together as brothers and makes us sons of our Father.
