Traditionally Lent is a season in the church calendar leading up to Easter Sunday. It is a season for all of God’s people to reflect on their sing and their need for Jesus while building anticipation to celebrating his resurrection on Easter Sunday. If you grew up in church or had ‘churchy’ friends you may remember hearing people talking about giving up stuff during lent, like chocolate, meat or some other random thing. This practice was originally created to help people focus on Christ as they sacrificed something they really enjoyed.
The tradition is great and can help grow us as followers of Jesus, but this year we have a new challenge for our faith community. Instead of simply giving something up we are encouraging all of our families to add something to their daily routine that is going to grow their family’s faith and love for Jesus. We have come up with a daily Bible reading challenge for you and your entire family to go through during the season of Lent. There is one Bible reading for each day of the week and some discussion questions to go along with each reading. This is designed to be a simple and fun tool to help your family dive into God’s Word together. You can do go through it around the dinner table, or in the car while you are driving to soccer practice. Do what works for your family. Have fun with it! We pray that this challenge helps create a new habit for your family as you grow as followers of Jesus. You can download the plan right here.
